IIRC I saw something recently--it might have been in an email from DL--about needing to check in based on the originally scheduled time for international flights. This surprised me, but it might be because DL doesn't staff counters with DL employees in most international stations. Perhaps contract workers are inflexibly scheduled for certain hours before scheduled departure times in many overseas locations.
