I need to change the date of my flight, and noticed I could also change the ticket type (from economy classic to flex) for a reasonable cost.

The available flight options are so bad that it got me thinking; If I change the ticket type to flex, can I cancel my ticket and get my all of my money back (not just the new charge but also what I've already paid)? In other words, does the ticket type change make the entire ticket refundable or just the upcharge portion of it? Anyone have data points on this?

If I can get my money back, I'd be happy to cancel my AY ticket, pocket the money, and use points on another airline instead.
