Your second issue is separate. I assume it's a points booking as cash bookings are updated immediately to a suite.
Most would just assume it’s done correctly. I’ve never gone over my rate with the hotel at check in that’s odd that anyone would do that at all. Also, even in that case the hotel would still have to go by what they see.
As for the 2nd issue my reservation was confirmed into a suite by MHC and the hotel manager with documentation. They simply decided to sell the suite to another guest.
