In all the years of flying UA and LH (with UA being the ticketing agent) I can pretty much guarantee that GS would not have helped. GS and 1K and Plat and Gold are all the same to LH. You're simply Star Alliance Gold and LH will simply follow the alliance rules as it relates to baggage allowance and lounge access. Everything else they couldnt care less about. Sorry if that is not what you want to hear.
