My frequent flying days are apparently over, currently I only book award tickets in Economy for personal travels 1-2 times per year. And I have no status after 20 years.

I have noticed that since UA has introduced paid seat assignment, good deal of E+ seats sit empty while back of the plane is mostly occupied.

What are chances/success rate to ask check-in or boarding agents to give you seat up front?
