I had a great experience on TED this weekend (first time on TED, SFO-LAS). On the outbond, had exit row 11C and had much more room than in domestic first. No complaints about the service, as I didn't expect much. As an added bonus, Ronnie Lott was seated in 11A.
On the return flight, I used the Kiosk at the airport to check-in and was bummed to see that my seat was 1D, as opposed to the 11D exit row that I had reserved in advance. I was running a little late for the flight, and the security line looked extrememely long (as they always are at LAS). When I approached the gentleman who was checking BPs and IDs he kindly told me that I could go to the special First Class security line. I looked down at my ticket, and low and behold it has FIRST CLASS printed at the top. I assumed there was some screw-up in the system (as this was a TED flight, as was also printed in bold letters across the middle of the ticket) and that it incorrectly printed first class because I was in 1D.
When I got to the TED gate, I saw that the plane being used for the flight was a regular UAL A320. My excitement began to build, and sure enough, when I entered the plane rows 1-3 were configured for First. As it was only am hour and a half flight, it was nothing special, but it was still a nice suprise to have the wider, more comfortable seat for my return from LAS, especially after the 3 hours of sleep the night before. As a relatively new 1P, this "upgrade" was the first major benefit I've had over my old 2P status, and it was a nice one. I think I might just try TED again!
