My parents flight from Dubrovnik to LGW has just been cancelled on Tuesday 25th June and they were given an option to cancel or rebook for the BA flight the day before which they did. Trouble is they have a separate non refund hotel night so my guess is that will be for their travel insurance. I have read duty of care but that seems all about delays (rather than being early!) but what are they entitled to ?
They are entitled to EC261 for the cancellation within 14 days but won’t get a refund for the unused hotel. They could have asked for rerouting on another carrier on the same day or day after and then claimed back any additional expenses incurred. You’ll need to check your insurance policy to see whether this type of curtailment is covered.
