Delayed Baggage Question (EK and Marhaba)
I am dealing with an interesting situation with my checked bag which started yesterday 6/21.
First part of my trip was BKK to DXB through DOH on QR, all on a single ticket in F. Then, a separate ticket from DXB to FCO on EK, also in F.
Understanding the separate ticket risk, I 1) Built in a five hour connection in between the QR flight ending in DXB and the EK flight to FCO and 2) Purchased the Marhaba baggage transfer service at DXB so I didn't need to collect my bag from QR, go through customs and enter Dubai.
The QR segment from DOH to DXB went mechanical and we were delayed a little over three hours while they secured a new plane. My five hour connection in DXB ended up being just shy of two hours.
Per the Marhaba instructions, I presented myself to their transfer desk in Terminal 1 when I got off the QR flight. They took a copy of my QR baggage tag receipt and printed me off some kind of confirmation (which they also wet-stamped for some reason). They said to show it to EK at the gate for the FCO flight. I booked it from T1 to T3 and got there right at final call. I showed the Marhaba confirmation to the EK supervisor at the gate who said the bag hadn't been delivered to EK yet, but to get on the flight and file a claim at FCO to move the process along.
I got to FCO and of course no bag. EK uses Swissport for their baggage handling in Rome. The person overseeing the flight was very helpful - she called the FCO EK station manager and explained the separate ticket and Marhaba issue. The station manager said that the situation is really between me and Marhaba, but as a courtesy, EK would accept a PIR filing and take responsibility for getting the bag back to me.
My question - I've got the PIR number and have been checking the status (no movement yet) and I've also emailed Marhaba to see if they have the bag and provided them the PIR (still waiting to hear back). Is there anything else I should be doing at this point to help move this along? Specifically, is there any need to get QR involved at this stage?
