If you're abroad, maybe without regular roaming / data services, then you might not even know about any issue quickly and you may also not be able to sort it quickly.
With online services such as Revolut in the way I use it, I keep a maximum of £200 available for my incidental purchases. If I want to buy something more expensive than that then I can top up really easily just before I make the purchase. My risk is managed so much better than if I use a card abroad with a direct link to my bank accounts.
That's how I see it, anyway.
Revolut also has nice security measures. You can disable cash withdrawals, online payments, contactless payments and swipe payments in the app when you don't need them.
They also have location based security, which compares the location of the transaction to the location of your phone and blocks the transaction if the distance is suspiciously far. You have to enable that feature manually in the app.
