What month is this? Prices fluctuate a lot, and £1000 is a decent budget. Also, if you buy points, there are no resort fees for some hotel groups--sadly, NYC hotels worth the room all seem to charge them. If they don't, you may not want the room, so find a workaround! I hate resort fees! Also, if you have any friends/acquaintances who are Hyatt Globalist and can gift you a "Guest of Honor" pass, even if you do not receive an upgrade, you would get Globalists benefits at a Hyatt, which means no resort fees and free breakfast. I am not as much help on specifics as I've not been to the city in a while. But join all the major programs for free and also explore all the reviews. Many Facebook groups also have updated reviews. I aggregate Google Reviews with TripAdvisor and the hotel's own reviews and look for patterns.
