Both of the tunnels under the Hudson are decrepit. There's absolutely no argument there. Amtrak themselves (who own the tunnels) will tell you that.

The catenary wires on the inbound tracks date back to the 30s and 40s in many places.

And let's not discuss the portal bridge. Still a year+ away from the replacement opening to traffic -- and just a single track at that.

Heat spells like the one we have now cause sag, which causes delays or suspensions.

I certainly wouldn't rely on NJT to get me anywhere time-sensitive.

And that's from someone born & raised here in NJ.
We New Yorkers just always assumed that the NJ government was doing everything possible to keep you from escaping NJ/...
