To follow up, I returned the car today and it was a medium-sized pain in the butt.

I did receive an email from the manager this morning. I replied with an explanation of what I think happened, and sent the rental agreement and closeout document that I had received - along with a picture of the key tag. He responded and said that he would work on getting the correct car assigned to my contract...and then went dark on me.

When I arrived in the return lane, I told the agent to *not* try to check me in yet, because there was a problem with the reservation that the manager was working on - and that I needed to speak to him first. The guy says "oh, this won't affect anything", and scans it anyway. Then it was "How did you get this car? It's not rented out to anyone!", and I'm like "yeah, no kidding. Maybe next time you could listen to what I JUST TOLD YOU.

They finally found the manager and it took 15 or 20 minutes at the booth to (hopefully) get it fixed. he said that he was able to fix the rate and get the total correct, but couldn't assign the correct car to my contract because my contract had already closed out. So I still have some nervousness about the situation.

I told him that I thought it was odd that their system allowed the same car to be assigned to two different contracts, and he said that it couldn't happen. He said that what would have happened was that the person in Texas would have checked the car out, and then when they accidentally assigned it to me the system would have closed out his contract and started mine (probably saving him money). Then when he returned it in Texas, it closed out *my* contract. All while the car that I was actually in, and put 350 miles on, never left the Indianapolis airport.

Super weird and sketchy!

Oh, and side note - this probably only pissed me off because I was already irritated - the "booth" is apparent called "The Experience". After Mr Check-in-Agent-Who-Won't-Listen found the manager on his walkie-talkie, he turns to me and says:

"Head on over to the experience and they will take care of you"

Me: "The what?" (also note that I am hearing-impaired, so I wasn't positive I heard what I thought I heard)

Him "The Experience" (stares at me like I'm the idiot)

Me: "What the F is 'The Experience"???"

Him: "The booth"

Me: "Well then why didn't you just say 'head over to the booth'???"

Him <shrugs and walks away>
