(so less than 3 minutes difference in time between the bookings, for a flight 3 months hence.....where the seat map showed it to be almost empty). I contacted cathay and they said it was "timing differences due to the flight filling up" - which was an outright lie.
"was just about to pay" - sounds like your personal account booking had already created a booking with your name/flight details are likely was holding the last seat at the price; hence when going into your business plus account, your flight was showing in the fare class above; could be wrong but personally have not had any issues regarding business plus bookings before or have heard of any from friends.
