Changing Routing with Future Flight Credit
Hello, I thought I understood the rules but according to United I didn't, so I am coming to the experts for confirmation. Thank you in advance.

I purchased a ticket ATH-SFO-ATH and flew ATH-SFO. Our reason to return to Athens no longer exists so I cancelled the SFO-ATH portion and was issued a future flight credit.

I tried using the future flight credit to book a flight SFO-LAX-SFO and received an error message. I called United for assistance and was told that once the outbound is flown the future flight credit can only be used for routing from SFO to the original region (in this case Europe).
