Does anyone have any recent experience with *G benefits and baggage allowance on Avianca tickets booked with UA miles? We have a saver ticket that’s O/W from SJO to the US, one segment. Avianca customer service insists that UA baggage policy applies and to contact UA, but my experience is UA policy does not apply during a portion of a ticket where no segments are operated by UA

Mostly I want to know if the fare (class X) maps to a basic or classic ticket—I’m reading basic tickets have no carryon or check baggage allowance even for *G and the cost of buying a carryon at the airport is huge. Avianca customer service will not help me buy bags in advance or answer questions about the ticket, turning me back to UA.

Avianca website refuses to pull up the reservation. UA website says two free checked bags at 70lbs each (ie typical 1K allowance), which seems suspect.
