Some people speculate it relates to the strikes at various LH group carriers during the Spring. Others think it may be a mistake in relation to a promo. Yet others believe it is a gesture in times of still slighty-below-normal business travel (business travel = the bread-and-butter of airline loyalty programs).

If it is not a mistake, some notification to elites is probably in the works.

Personally, I think as compensation for strikes, the credits would make sense. If, instead, they are some sort of goodwill gesture related to the program changes or somewhat weak business travel, I would find the credits uncreative, almost stupid. Much better to build such a gesture into something tied to elite engagement (such as the BA holidays promo or double-status credits as seen in TK, QF, SK, and other programs).
