Indigo Chester (UK)

Indigo Chester (UK)
Note that location on Google Maps is wrong, it is across the road from where the pin is, I have tried to submit the correction to google many times but it doesn't stick.

What is your Priority Club status?
Diamond

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
King Standard redemption > King Standard

How are the rooms?
A bit more usable floor area than the other Indigos I stayed in
Key not needed to activate electricity – instead there is a clearly marked master switch, which was mentioned at check-in along with a request to manually turn off all lights when leaving the room.
Free minibar contained popcorn and various soft drinks
Luxurious toilet paper
Great view although window could not be opened
Rather useless heavy sliding “door” in front of fridge/tea area and wardrobe (see photo)

How is the exec. lounge?
None

What was good and what was bad?
Breakfast was proactively offered instead of the typical “would you like points or a drink”? Sadly it was a bit disappointing, and not just because the restaurant was freezing cold (this was at the end of April when there was a bit of a cold snap) - the food was only lukewarm and the tea served in a teapot was tepid.

I ordered avocado toast, bread was burnt, avocado had a weirdly sweet buttery taste, chef must have mixed it with something. Buffet selection and quality was just average. On the plus side poached eggs were perfectly done.

Staff were all very casual but chatty and efficient, almost as if the brand standard instructs them to behave in this way – I stayed at several Indigos on this trip and got a deja vu feeling each time I checked ins. Interactions with staff at other IHG brands are noticeably different.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Paid 21k points. Best room out of my recent Indigo stays, shame the breakfast was below average, but I would give them another go because of the location being only 10 minutes walk from the station. Not many other chain hotels in the centre of Chester (there is a Crowne Plaza 20 minutes walk from the station).
