Disappearing Boarding Passes in AS App?
I had a peculiar event happen to me recently -- on a quick, one-day trip to YYJ (Victoria BC) via SEA, I had noon departure time and checked in on the AS app from my hotel at around 9am. I got a boarding pass, but unlike my usual practice, didn't bother to screen-shot it or add it to my Google Wallet. Heck, it was a 24-minute flight and I wasn't concerned.
I got to YYJ a bit before 11am, returned my car, and made my way to the security line. I pulled up the Alaska app and -- nothing. No boarding pass, just "go to the ticket counter". I went to the ticket counter, but it was now about 11:02, and the counter was closed, with the staff having departed to work the gate for departure.
I desperately called Alaska -- no love -- "you must arrive 2 hours prior for international flights". B-bu-bu-but it's a 24-minute flight to Seattle!! No way, Jose. In my panic I didn't do what I should have -- booked a refundable flight to Vancouver (no passport control needed), cleared security, and then checked in, but I was too gobsmacked to think of that in the moment.
To forestall the most obvious brickbats: Yes, I was in the wrong. I should have arrived earlier. I got on the next flight (there was one!!!) and only missed one important commitment at home. I'll be wiser in the future.
But -- the real question -- has anyone experienced this business of the AS app giving you a BP and then rescinding it?
