Yap, might as well book 3 other rooms in other people's names, to get the points.

I had a different situation recently, going to a wedding in Hawaii.
In Honolulu I booked a 5 night stay using points. Then booked another nearby hotel for 1 night redemption and 2 nights paying. Marriott would only credit me for the second hotel, for 3 night credit and the paid stay points. The other 2 nights that I did stay (among the 5 nights) I don't get stay credit for.
In Kona, I booked all in the same hotel 5 night paid stay, within those 5 nights a separate 3 night paid, and one more 5 night paid stay but started 1 night later. Marriott credited my only 3 nights stay credit and the paid points (because the first 3 nights finished earlier). I submitted missing credit request and they want to remove that 3night paid stay, in order for me to get the 5 night stay credit and points. I should've booked the other 5 night stay in my wife's name so she gets the stay and points.
The other thing is resort fees and taxes, or tips paid to restaurants, don't get points. I can understand the taxes, but the resort (scam) fees go to the hotel and Marriott should give points, but that's another discussion.
