On the way back for the second visit we will probably get the round trip ticket from the ticket desk as that will save quite a bit of money.
I've boarded N'ex many times without a reserved seat, just using Suica, and paid the Green seat charge to the conductor on board with cash. Or if you have a bit more time, use eki-net when boarded to purchase your seat.
