while that is true, there is no reason to not monitor the cost of your travel dates with a better itinerary. There are 7 tpa to mia flights a day right now. in my experience booking award J flights far our from your travel date you will find a lot of poor connections. You are lucky you dont have to overnight in mia, let alone have a 13 hr layover. closer in to the date of travel (15 to max 60 days in my experience) you can often times find much better connections, often times at a lower cost. So while you are responsible for any increase in award miles required, you also get a refund if the number of miles required goes down....
