Recently returned from a trip to Munich and Paris with the majority of the time devoted to Paris in order to attend Roland Garros. Though I am self aware enough to admit that I have been fully indoctrinated into the FSGV cult, I opted to split my ten nights between the George V and Hôtel de Crillon to satisfy my curiosity and to see if perhaps the grass is indeed greener on the other side and maybe there is merit to the seemingly endless praise showered upon the Crillon in recent years. It also didn't hurt that Crillon offered a last minute 5th night free promotion which presented a significantly better value proposition than FSGV (on paper at least) making this a perfect opportunity to venture into foreign territory. After reading about david22 's recent experience, I was a bit apprehensive about my decision, but ultimately decided to stay the course for the sake of "research" and figured a stay in any Palace level property couldn't possibly be that bad, right? Wrong. Setting aside my bias towards the FSGV, I genuinely went into my stay with an open mind and hopeful that I'd leave impressed and excited to return. Suffice it to say, that is not how things played out and I would rank my experience at the Crillon among one of the worst luxury hotel stays I've had in recent memory. Simply put, the Crillon was outclassed by the George V at every level. Granted, I had just spent 5 flawless nights at the George V so the cards were most certainly stacked against the Crillon, and any hotel would need to bring their A-game in order to impress me, but frankly the Crillon didn't even try.
