Your Truly DC Hotel – Vignette Collection Washington D.C:
What is your Priority Club status?
Diamond Ambassador
Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
The hotel is located in Washington, as ten minutes walk from the subway stop Foggy Bottom GWU, which connects the airport with DCA.Dulles International Airport (IAD) could be reached by changing subways at Rosslyn.
The area around the hotel is a mixture of residential and office building. There are a couple of hotels in the vicinity of the hotel (i.a. Ritz-Carlton, West End Washington Typestry Collection, Hyatt Place, Washington Marriott Goergeowon).
Reason for us to stay there, that I wanted to have a centrally located hotel with easy access to public transportation, DCA airport and the Mall. I booked it with points 48.000 / night as the cash rates were close to 600 USD / night. In so far, I considered using points a good deal.
Be aware, that the hotel charges and amenity fee of 30 USD (including taxes) which includes a 15 USD food credit. Not bad, but during my stay with a caveat.
The hotel has nine floors. You enter via driveway. To the left is restaurant and bar while check in desk along with a sofa are to the right.
The main restaurant “Mery Me” is modern in design and offers a wide range of cocktails, small dishes and a full menu. There is also a “Call your Mother” which double as take away deli. This is only open from morning till afternoon.
A stair leads from the check in area to the basement. There you find meeting rooms and the gym.
The style of restaurant is open plan with some plants, modern design and the hotel called it Bohemian Style. Depending on the time of the day, it could be vibrant / busy / loud. The courtyard is used depending on the weather. A few chairs and tables are also available at the street.
The restaurant features a hairdresser.
I arrived at the hotel at 12:45; I took the subway from DCA. I was greeted and asked for ID. My room was not ready and the hotel offered to send me a text message if my room was ready. I told them I would be happy with the next available room, but was told, that my room was already cleaned but not yet checked. As I had been on a red-eye from LAX (via PHL) and my visit at the Air and Space Museum was not till 15:00, I decided to wait and catch up with some work related mails. My room became available around an hour later.
The agent confirmed that my reservation was for two day. It was also not mentioned that I received an upgrade to a Premium Courtyard view. I was asked about my choice of amenity. The breakfast was mentioned last, and I was told, that my room number was written down on the list for the restaurant in the morning. The first time, that I had no issues with breakfast in a hotel in the US. And I also received the 600 welcome points. The agent also mentioned the amenity fee, which was due also being it an award stay. The 15 USD would be “use it or loose it” and I needed to charge the fee to my room. The credit then was applied to my folio during check-out. I only could be used in “Mercy Me” restaurant and bar.
Of course the forgot to mention, that the restaurant was closed during my second day for a private event and thus I was unable to use the credit as they had also turned off the room-service offering on the screen and phone.
Breakfast is served in the restaurant from 06:30 to 10:30. It is served as buffet and consisted of scrambled eggs, bacon and sausages as well as potatoes with vegetable. In addition, cheese and salami, fresh fruit, cereals, bagels and pastries were provided. Bread was quite good. Coffee and juice (orange grapefruit and cranberry) were also available on the buffet.
The room where the buffet is placed also doubles / is styled as kind of record shop giving this a unique feeling.
The fitness center is very small and in the basement without any window and all black wall. The entrance and elevator landing is shared with the meeting room which make it a bit unpleasant. I did not use it, at it was busy in the morning and also in the afternoon.
On the first day, I had dinner at the restaurant / bar. Food was quite good and reasonable priced. Prices were reasonable (Burger 18 USD). Drinks were also okay, local beer (bottles) for 9 USD. Service was attentive.
Internet was fast.
Check out was quick in the morning at 08:20. I did not need a late check.
Which room did you book, and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked Standard room and received a Premium Courtyard room.
How are the rooms?
My room was located on the 8th floor.
After opening the door, one is right in the room. Similar in the so called “Bohemian Style” with concrete floor, a carpet and kind of loft feeling. To the left was the small bathroom with toilet, sink and shower. Shampoo, shower gel and soap (Karl Lagerfeld) were provided as well as body lotion. Towels (three large and three medium sized and two small ones were available). In addition, slippers and bathrobes were also provided. Water pressure was very weak in the shower though. The space at the sink is limited.
Th room consist of a king bed with a bedside table, which was built in the bed frame and more of the small size. USB outlets and plugs were available there. Drawers are located under the bed, which is nice and saves space.
Opposite the bed was a sideboard with fridge and tea and coffee utensils. There was also the TV and the desk with desk lamp and additional plugs. The deskchair was not very good but modern as were the two lamps.
The a/c unit was a covered window mounted unit but controlled via panel at the wall. It worked efficient and not that noisy. On the other window was a comfortable sitting nook with a lamp.
The room was bright despite facing the courtyard. I might help that I was on a higher floor. There were two blinds, one was to avoid other people looking into the room and one was darkening the room:
Rooms are well maintained. The space to store your belonging is okay. There is no real closet, but a sideboard with drawers. Space to hang clothes is a bit limited. This also applies for storing larger luggage.
Downside also, the noise from the open area in the courtyard next to the restaurant could be noisy.
How is the exec. lounge?

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
The hotel is in well located. The rooms are very nice and modern and a welcomed change from the typical standard hotel room. Downside the weak water pressure and the situation with the amenity fee.
Nice thing, I received points worth 580 USD in addition to my spending in the hotel, probably because the hotel was fully booked during my stay and IHG needed to reimburse a higher rate to the hotel.
I will return; depending on the room rates though.
