They actually don't spam like so many others do. I have only ever received 'ready to check-in' and 'message from the hotel' when I've used the in-app chat. Although I do have the Offers and Marketing choice turned off.
Getting notified every time I earn points (including things like monthly points from credit card spend) is spam.
