I think the airplanes have the same cruise speed, but in this case it looks like UA2 had a rather long taxi time (just over an hour), while SQ32 was fairly quick to take off (about 25 minutes after gate departure, and only 8 minutes after UA2), so in the air they only had to make up a tiny bit of time to beat you.
ok. I’ve often seen SQ leave SFO after UA, but arrive earlier. I just assumed that since SQ has many arrivals into Singapore, perhaps it can play around with arrival times and circumvent the curfew, if a flight is going to arrive early.
