I carry zip ties as well as a personal roll of duck tape. They've come in very handy and take up no room.
Zip ties are mandatory for me. I put them through the zipper pulls if I ever have to check a bag. I put two different colors so I know if somebody opened it regardless if I have a lock attached or not.
