If you have travel insurance and it is a covered reason, you may be able to get money back from it

Otherwise booking a non refundable ticket is something to be wary of unless sure that you will be travelling

There isn't much that you can do other than take the taxes minus admin fee back

I don't see how this can be called rapacious - you knew it was a non refundable ticket when you purchased it
