I really don't like the idea of removing them. For a short 1hr or so trip I'm not so concerned, but anything longer I think it's not a great idea.
Like I said in a previous post, I like to follow along with the Flight Map, and losing this is a negative for me.
Weight = cost. And, they are also refurbing the Q400s with new lighter-weight seats. All of these initiatives maximize fuel efficiency for the Express fleet.
Those old Thales systems are practically unusable sometimes - I would much rather have the full IFE stream to my iPad in quality resolution connected to my own earphones. And, as another commenter noted, the A220s will take over the longer-haul routes the CR9 and E75 used to operate, so this new set up should be good.
