Long story short, I'm planning my second trip to Japan, did the Golden Route the last time. This time we will stay in Tokyo for 10 nights and day trip to the extent that we will not really leave the Tokyo-Yokohama area. My kids (M11, F9) will be on the trip and I wanted to give them a Shinkansen experience so I thought that the JR Tokyo Wide Pass might be the way to go. It's a three day pass that lets you travel on JR trains in the area that surrounds Tokyo.



I thought Nikko would be the obvious place to go as somewhere that combines an interesting destination with a Shinkansen ride. But are there any other places within the region that would be especially interesting for a family to visit? Particularly those involving a Shinkansen ride?
