I don't bother with Cathay Whatsapp Chat. I always call with them.
I have a pretty high opinion of Manila call centre. They really pulled through with some complicated maximising oneworld multi-city awards last year. Last month they managed to arrange a refund of taxes and surchatges on the last multi-city that I wasn't able to fly.
I just used Qatar Privilege Club's in-app chat this morning to perform a JL round-trip redemption I wasn't able to perform online. Although ultimately the redemption was done, for a straightforward round-trip redemption (albeit on a partner) it was far more complicated than it had to be. I had to keep the chat open in my phone and still got timed out by one agent for not responding promptly enough for them, although the next agent was able to pick up quite quickly from where the last one left off.
Timeout is the most annoying feature of chat. Length of time between responses by agents isn't so bad, if they don't impose timeout.
