I really don't like the idea of removing them. For a short 1hr or so trip I'm not so concerned, but anything longer I think it's not a great idea.
Like I said in a previous post, I like to follow along with the Flight Map, and losing this is a negative for me.
Most carriers have never had IFE on CRJs. Not only is there repair/maintenance cost but there's also a weight penalty with an IFE system (fuel cost implications).
Stream to device content is what you get on most AA/WS mainline aircraft.
If the refit includes power, that should meet the needs of most.
With this type of system you don't need to purchase Wifi to get access to on device entertainment.
