Stay completed late May. Booked one night with points. Headed to Kanazawa the next day, so this was the perfect hotel to stay at location wise. Also wanted to check out the new DoubleTree with a lounge.

Room was available at 12 when I checked in. Cookies were just ok here. Upgraded from base to King Executive just a few floors down from the lounge. Exact same view as the lounge on the shinkansen platform side. As noted above, carpet in the room. That's the only negative really other than lack of counter space in the bathroom. Good DoubleTree room otherwise. Went to the lounge on the top floor during happy hour and was surprised to see not much people. FYI it was a Thursday. Maybe 8-10 people at once max during the time I was there (last 1.5 hours of happy hour). Regarding the food, it would've been just enough maybe as a light dinner replacement, but then they came out with ribs in the last hour and that kept me from leaving. About 4 food items when I came in with 2 rotated out for ribs and something else by the end. Also had a couple dessert items like small donuts and a little cake. Breakfast was just ok to me. Standard mix of Japanese, Western, the one dim sum for some reason always. The matcha dessert section seemed out of place for breakfast. With a DIY matcha soft serve machine. Not high quality stuff, but ok if you want to eat it for breakfast.

Great place for the convenience of the main Kyoto station within a 5 minute walk. Lounge was good in the end food wise for me, but it sort of depends on what the 4 food items end up being. FYI stayed at the Higashiyama location last year and I would say their unique Japanese style room + breakfast is better. That room may be a little cramped though even though it was cool. Definitely recommend staying there if you want to be within walking distance (20 minutes) of Kiyomizu-dera.
