e.g. yyc-fra is <5000 miles, but routing through yvr is charged for the yvr-fra distance (>5001) miles. routing though yyz is charged based on yyz-fra (<5000)
yyc-lhr-bom according to the wiki would need 17 points (>5001 miles) for PY low -> J upgrade, but charged as 12 as both segments are <5000

This approach still seems to apply, with upgrade success to different cabins. e.g. yyc-yvr upgraded to J and yvr-fra only to PY, the total charge is based on the yvr-fra PY >5001 requirement only.

Of course, at the time of requesting the upgrade, I've generally needed to have enough credits to individually request upgrades for each segment, so the total of credits needed to request upgrades on a multi-segment route is often more than the actual cost, and it all gets reconciled after the flight

Is this consistent for others?
When I did some mileage runs last year using a routing such as YVR - YWG - YYZ - YHZ, the total eup requirement was 6 + 6 + 6 = 6 credits. It appears to be a glitch rather than a feature, but it has been this way for a long time.
