I have stayed at this property several times. However it has been a while since my last stay.
I always outright booked the highest suite category (even when I was RA) which does have amazing views directly over the bay and is very spacious and pretty well appointed.
I am not sure about the other room types many of which are in an annexe across the road from the main property (linked on one floor by an enclosed bridge.
Even the best room type can be problematic. They do seem to like to assign guests to lower floors and unless I made it very clear ahead of arrival what I wanted, I had to argue to change floors. The 2 lower floors are really close to a pedestrian walkway (for the general public rather than just hotel guests) so you get passers by directly in front of your suite windows or just below them. Only the top floor seems far enough away to be less impacted.
The positioning of other rooms is also potentially an issue, even a top floor suite if on the right hand side of the property is in close proximity to the business next door (a fast food outlet on my last stay).
The best feature of this property (being in a prime central position and away from main roads), is also it's downside since any central location on Monterey sees much foot traffic and surrounding noise.
I have to say though overall I always really liked this property and would happily stay again but would be really upfront and clear about any requirements well ahead of a stay, confirm they have been met and book a flexible rate just in case.
