I guess I'm overly cynical, but I don't like the idea of sending personal info unencrypted through a company with as many employees as X, none of whom are related to BA.
BA haven’t exactly excelled at handling their own data so I don’t see much difference there but I do get your point.

Elon Musk laid off about 80% of staff at Twitter when he took them over. So there aren’t as many staff as you might expect!
