I'd say the farther back, the better. My (uneducated) understanding is that all folks without seat assignments (NRSA, etc) are generally sat front to back so theoretically, the middle in the last row is last to be chosen. On the flip side, if you play that game, you could be stuck in the last row with the middle filled if it's full.
