Thanks for your reply, I wont take CX/OW frequently, maybe once or twice a year, and almost redemption tickets.

Is there any rules for newbie?

I know it and dont want to bring troubles to others. Thus I am asking when should I notify the ground staff that I wont take the connection flight. However, based on your information, I am leaning towards booking a different airline

You should notify the ground staff at the transfer desk at HKG (only works if you got your bags checked into HKG). Or if possible, notify the chief purser on board as they are also able to alert the airline that you will not be flying the final leg.
