Tape or Duct Tape on Carry On Luggage?
If you have a carry on that is a large messenger bag and it has a few compartments and say the zipper broke and you cannot close it up, are you allowed to use some type of tape on the entire zipper area of the whole compartment and seal it up? I guess if you use tape, it has to be masking tape or duct tape? Which is better? This isn't checked luggage I'm talking about but a carry on that you would put in the overhead bin. I am sure there are cases where someone's zipper on their luggage broke while they are on vacation and don't have the time to buy a new luggage or say they are in the airport and they broke the zipper and now they can't fully close their checked bag or carry on bag. In those situations, is having masking tape or duct tape very important? Since without it, you can't close your bag?
I googled this and from what I read, many people do this as some people have their luggage zipper broke or their luggage broke and don't have time to buy a new luggage. Other people travel with boxes and use duct tape on it and things like that? But that is with checked luggage right? So using that tape, then whatever bag they are using, well it is going to be closed but of course it isn't going to be as strong as a bag with a working zipper.
Now has anyone here taped their check in luggage whether it's a large messenger bag or bag of any sort or a small rolling duffel as their carry on? I took a look at the large messenger bag I have and I think if I use a few duct tape to tape the whole area that the zipper is supposed to cover, then it should work? The only issue is if they ask to look inside the bag, I would ask them to cut the duct tape off? Then with the duct tape in my large messenger bag, tape it again? So obviously if you do this, you need to make sure you put everything you need in that compartment where the zipper is broken first and then tape it? What happens if you don't have duct tape and this happens to either your checked bag or carry on? Does the airline have duct tape for you to use there?
