Complaint to BA, why? You flew IB, IB is the one that caused the incident, then IB is the one to complain to. I do agree that most J/F crew tend to be multilingual, and English is usually spoken by more than one attendant. Maybe you got a lazy crew that excelled in doing the most minimal service. Any reason your partner couldn't approach the flight attendant regarding the meal service, or if she wanted something, aside from the language barrier, I mean the call button is there, you can always point to something, granted, I know sometimes is best not to rock the boat.
