+1,000 -- and since many of these high J flights are on the shorter TATL roots (like EWR-LHR) -- they really have to move quickly to get people their meals so they can try and get to sleep - one more FA would REALLY make a difference in service -- but as you mentioned will do nothing for food quality.
On certain flights with favorable jet streams, FA have skipped serving the second meal because not enough time with the current staffing level.
