Are you sure that was J and not F? Their latest J menu for HND-JFK shows no soup and fewer dessert choices than pre COVID. Or maybe your colleague's soup was from the a la carte (anytime service) menu?

Curious what you mean by "soup" -- my meal on my last ANA flight (last month) included Miso soup but it wasn't mentioned on the menu (in Japan t's like getting water to me lol - it's always there) -- do you mean something else/?
