The LCY security staff are great but have clearly been put in a difficult position by the new scanner introduction. Other than a couple of places where the culture isn't quite so good (LHR T4 and MAN) I don't think rude security staff in the UK is much of a thing. For example, I watched the supervisor at BER yesterday pretend (multiple times!) not to understand / hear an American guy asking her a question of whether laptops come out or stay in so that she could continue her conversation uninterrupted. Was somewhat shocking but the entire airport is basically like that with staff that look like they will be jumping off the nearest bridge after their shift, I suppose.
