My quick calculus is $395 fee plus $190 for cost of making $10K tax payment, less $200 (for the 12 x $20 Staples credit -- plenty of Netflix gift cards) for 160,000 points (if not a few more with an employee card bonus or two) means under $0.0025 per point (or more than 40,000 MR points per $100 out of pocket). At that acquisition cost and stuff like AF transatlantic and 35% back on J and F when using Amex Business Platinum, I can fly J (or F domestic) at the price those flights are actually worth.
