Exactly that. Gatwick primarily gets the lower yielding routes. It doesn't even get all the leisure routes these days with those attracting more premium flyers such as Barbados, Bermuda and the Maldives operating from Heathrow and no longer any routes with First.
It's designed to be a relatively low cost operation to cater for those lower yielding routes.
