I believe the EasyPay card doesn’t carry a live balance and has to somehow update periodically (daily?) in a batch process that sends the info to all the readers whether the card is valid or not. That’s the reason there’s a $20 replenishment threshold, so they can ensure there’s always enough balance between updates. I’m thinking there will be a way to exploit this when the balance gets low and take a few “extra” rides - which will put the account into negative balance territory. I suppose they could retain the right to charge you to bring that back to zero, perhaps the virtual card “trick” on that last day before you run the balance down could get around that.
