Not sure how OP avoided that without flying.
There must have been some kind of amnesty, because I hadn't flown Delta since before 2011 ( think my last flight was 2008) yet when I came back in 2020 I still had my unused miles.
EDIT: now that I think about it, mine probably were just not yet expired by 2011, whereas he would have needed a decade of carryover.
