Better to do 1 hr layover in ZRH and hope, and if luggage doesn’t make flight await next ZRH-GVA flight for our luggage?
Or 4 hr layover in ZRH to make sure we have our luggage at GVA?
THANKS!
Assuming no status/lounge access, I'd definitely go with the 1hr option. ZRH, while not the most efficient airport in the world, is still pretty good. 1hr is well above MCT, and unless you're delayed incoming, your bags should make it. And even if not, they'll probably be loaded onto the next flight to GVA, and then transported to your hotel in Chamonix. I am aware you might be a bit more hesitant because it's in a different country, but this isn't like the Mexico - US border or something like that. I'd pack maybe one extra set of clothes to change, just in case, but good chance you won't require them.
Alternatively, 4hrs in ZRH would be just enough for a quick trip to the city centre, especially if you don't have to worry about your bags. mid-July usually has good weather, so you could enjoy Zürich downtown for a short side visit.. (It's 10min by frequently operating trains) especially if you've never been there before, this would be a good alternative.
