Lots of great posts above on why Delta opted to renovate the 60s concourse instead of constructing a new one. As for aesthetic feel, I don’t think it will ever truly architecturally match the rest of the airport which is a bit sad. They can re-facade it, and even replace the windows (which I don’t think is happening), but the diagonal skylights really make it look out of place.
I agree but I think that the 60s gates are quite nice and provide a different vibe than the rest of the terminal. It might look out of place compared to the rest of the gates but to everyone who doesn't know anything about the new terminal they most likely would never be able to tell. I personally really like the 60s gates and the design with the skylights and the wood paneling and I think that after they open up the new food court it will only get better!
