RDU Shoe Harassment
Just went through security at RDU Terminal A with the same thin-soled, nonmetallic slip-on shoes I've worn through numerous other airports.
The screener at the WTMD recommended I remove my shoes. I told her they are non-profile with no metal and thin soles and after I walked through the detector she sent me over to the secondary screening pen---wasting about 10 minutes of my time.
Both the "male assist" who wanded me and the supervisor on duty agreed that my shoes are approved as walk-throughs and do not require any additional screening. Good news is, while I was in secondary, a group of supervisors gave a lecture about proper shoe policy to the screener who sent me to be harassed; apparently this was her first week on the job and she thought ALL shoes had to be removed.
FSD Ron Juhl and the team at RDU: PLEASE do a better job of training your screeners to spot non-profile shoes!
