Of course DOT has nothing to do with Australian domestic services. Any reasonable person reading the threads in the order they were written would understand it was unclear what flights we were discussing as it was not revealed.

The wording on the QF website while I think we can all agree is incorrect or subject to discussion, states quite clearly that "purchase a ticket in the United States for travel on Qantas", nothing about domestic, originating in the US, subject to fare rules, local T&Cs, no asterix etc.

It is sloppy text, very sloppy, the Op would have no difficulty with a charge back to a credit card based on that (a) the Op lives or was in the US at time of purchase and (b) hopefully used a US based credit card. No credit card merchant or small claims court is going to consider it reasonable that the Op has TA level knowledge to buy a plane ticket, or the time to go through global T&Cs, when it is clearly written in text without any reference to said T&Cs.

If it is an AU credit card, then that would have been a little daft.
